About Wanchor

Wanchors are a perfect balance of strength and versatility. They are the soft solution to a hard problem. It is important however to understand that not all concrete is created equal and results not only can vary but will vary. It is highly recommended that you test one or two Wanchors in an unobscure area in the same concrete prior to actual use.

This is as much to understand the forces and resistance of concrete as it is to understand the forces and limitations of drills and screws. In short, don’t over tighten.

How to use Wanchor

Installing/fastening

Using a hammer drill and a 3/16” standard concrete drill bit, drill the appropriate depth hole. Be sure to drill the hole at least ½” deeper than your screw as this will accommodate the loose concrete dust created in the drilling process. If you are fastening wood to the concrete, we recommend drilling both at the same time for accuracy.

Once proper depth is reached, insert a Wanchor through both the item you wish to fasten and actual hole. Be sure to insert it to the full depth. Once your Wanchor is fully inserted, fold its tail to the side. Then, using your drill, drive the screw into the hole beside the Wanchor. The hole may appear to not have sufficient room for the screw beside the Wanchor, but the Wanchor will deform as it’s being screwed and this is part of the process.

When you see and/or feel the screw tightening, ease off. Remember that concrete doesn’t yield like wood, so once you feel a strong hold, stop screwing. You may trim the tail off your Wanchor if it interferes but it is not necessary.

In the case of a screw that doesn’t tighten fully, you may use two Wanchors in the same hole. We recommend however that you remove the old one and replace it with 2 fresh ones. You may also remove the screw and try a larger gauge.

Type of Screw

You can use any normal wood screw between 8 and 12 gauge, with the same size hole and Wanchor. If your requirements are for light work, use 8 gauge, medium work use 10 gauge and for the strongest fastener, use 12 gauge screws. Note that there is a maximum depth of 1.5 inches when using 12 gauge screws, beyond which the screw will get jammed due to excess pressure.
